Again nutrition is also a vital part of a complete approach to six pack abs.

The first thing I would suggest is that you should be working your abs no more than 2 or 3 times per week. The great part is that anyone who is willing to make the effort can get very good abs often within just a few weeks (depending on your current bodyfat levels). If you want lean perfect abs you have to get most of the extra fat off of your body. Cardio exercises will help you with this, try jogging or bicycle or even aerobic.

A very common mistake that most people commit is that they try to get perfect abs with just exercises like crunches, sit-ups, etc. They think that just those exercises will burn the fat. That is false. You will strengthen your muscles with those exercises but very difficultly you will get rid of the fat. Apart from working out your muscles you need to burn the fat you got. To do so cardio exercises will help you, but you can help yourself with multi jointed exercises or compound exercises like squats and such. They are forcing your body work harder so you will expend a big amount of effort and energy which translates on calories burned and you will also work a group of muscles in which the abs will pay an important part. You will also spend energy (again calories burned) to reapair the body after the workout is finished, usually one or two days later.

Even if you do countless sit-ups without a proper training program you won’t be able to create those perfect abs. You need to do full body programs as well as strategic exercise combinations and sequencing that increases the metabolic rate and stimulates a fat-burning hormonal response in your body.

If you do weight training workouts for fat loss try to keep them intense and short (no more than 40 minutes) and the reps between 8 and 13 range. Don’t do more than 4 reps for each body part, use compound movements, don’t go for isolation exercises.
